Sky Horse - Side Saddles

Diamond Butterfly

Diamond Butterfly, This fully tooled classic combined a traditional feeling with modern details. All hand-tooled with basket stamping, carving and finish cuts. 53 pieces of solid sterling silver were made by master silversmith Jeff Georgantes, the head of the jewelry department at Dartmouth University. It is a combination of diamond repousse and classic silver engraving.  All the edges are braided in Loren's famous eight strand silver lace edge braid.  The seat is inlaid with black ostrich leather. 16.5" Seat, 3.5" Cantle & Bowman Tree with 6.75" gullet  This set includes a matching bridle and breast collar. Three-piece set priced at $19,600.
 

Ribbon Turquoise Saddle

Carved and silver feathers are a Skyhorse signature element. In this saddle, the hand-made sterling silver conchos and feathers were made to Lisa's design. The conchos incorporate ribbon turquoise stones with turquoise stone details on the tip of each feather. All carving is hand-done by Lisa and the fine silver braiding is Loren's invention, here placed on the fork and cantle back. 16" Seat, 4" Cantle, 6 5/8" Gullet, Arizona Bars & Bowman tree $10,700.
 

Black Petroglyph Saddle

Black Petroglyph Saddle (The actual saddle for sale is slightly different from the one shown at left. Differences include a leather braided cantle, and sterling silver conchos with petroglyph figures instead of coral. Actual saddle shown in bottom two pictures.) A classic Santa Ilfonso pot design carved into this black on black pleasure saddle. Sterling silver conchos, black buffalo seat, black kangaroo leather cantle. Black Ostrich Saddle

Built eight years ago, this saddle was a display piece and has never been ridden. Ostrich-bound cantle and fork with padded ostrich seat and numerous full-quill ostrich overlays. Bridle and breast collar are completely overlaid in full-quill ostrich. Hand-made solid Sterling silver conchos are repousse to match the ostrich texture. Conchos and buckles were hand made by master silversmith Jeff Georgantes, the head of the jewelry department at Dartmouth University. 16.5" seat, 3.5" Cantle, Bar spread 6 5/8 by 7 1/2" & Bowman Tree. Hand-carved finish cut border. Three-piece set, saddle, bridle and breast collar. If made today, this set would sell for $14,500. This display set is priced at $9,800.

Bouquet Trail Saddle
 

This lightweight 33 pound trail saddle gives you beauty and close contact. Lisa hand-carved the floral pattern, Loren braided the cantle and horn with kangaroo leather lacing. The hand-made sterling silver conchos are sculpted flowers. 15.5" deep pleasure seat, 7" bar spread-wide, Bowman Tree, 3.5" upright cantle & Padded buffalo leather seat $8,300.
 

Electric Horseman Motorcycle

A one-of-a-kind project built by Loren Skyhorse that showcases practical electric vehicle technology as well as master-crafted leatherwork by Lisa and Loren. The 8,000 rpm direct drive motor provides enough torque from standstill to go from zero to 50 in 5 seconds, and still reaches a top speed of 75 mph with no shifting required. Six sealed 12-volt batteries capable of 400 cycles for their life, with an onboard charger. Charging time is 3.5 hours (fully discharged), and range is 30 miles under normal conditions. Starting bike is a 1978 Kawasaki kz 650, and finished weight is 450 lbs. The leather side panels are quickly removable with snaps for easy maintenance.  All designs hand-carved and hand-painted. Black buffalo leather padded seats. Top edge of seat back hand-braided sterling silver lace. Conchos are cast walking-eagle silver dollars. This is a registered and licensed, highway-speed motorcycle.   Price $22,000.

Parade Saddles

Fleischer Mordo Ranch Saddle

This saddle was commissioned by Mr. and Mrs. Mort Fleischer for their saddle collection - the largest private saddle collection in the world. Our goal was to incorporate the looks of the classic parade saddles with a piece that was customized with the Fleischer Ranch logo and our own Skyhorse look.

We did this by inverting a classic scroll design, carving his ranch name on the cantle back, and working the three horse logo into the tooling pattern. Every edge is braided with our unique silver edge braid, and the 187 sterling silver pieces by Jeff Georgantes, combine a modern repose with a classic engraved edge. It was an honor and a thrill to create this ensemble of saddle, bridle, reins and matching breast-collar. Price Upon Request.

Zorro Saddle

We built this saddle for the poster horse for the movie Zorro. He was a big, handsome black Fresian. His owner wanted a saddle reminiscent of the classic parade saddle of the 1950s. It was personalized with his logo and initials in the corners of the silver, horn cap, and carved into the seat. It is trimmed with Loren's trademark silver braiding and the full concho set is hand-engraved solid sterling silver. Price Upon Request.
 

Black Magic Saddle

Black Magic was built on a wood covered rawhide, handmade tree. The groundwork is hand carved leather, all the leather is the highest quality American tanned, and the construction is done with traditional top craftsmanship. This was built not only for beautiful, but for comfort, fit and usability as well. 15 1/2 inch seat, 3 1/2 inch cantle, 6 3/4 inch bar spread, S.F. Bowman tree - 11 inch swells, Pleasure horn, 7 1/2 inch gullet,  Matching Saddle - Bridle - Breast-collar $20,500.

The Sampler

The Sampler, this saddle went to Hawaii for parades...  There are 55 "sampler conchos on this set- each one different with a different type of turquoise stone set into it. The fork, cantle, stirrups and skirts are fully braided with a black kangaroo lacing, and the lightning bolt border is a unique stamp designed by Lisa. The seat is an inlaid Navajo weaving.  Included in this set is a blanket with tooled "wear leathers", which are attached with velcro so they can be removed and interchanged with different saddle pads. $11,850.

The Alligator

The Alligator is a elegant blend of genuine alligator leather, with traditional scroll hand carving, and "storyteller" conchos. Each concho features a different North American animal overlaid in jewelers bronze. As with all our saddles, This saddle can also have a matching bridle and breastcollar overlaid with the same alligator leather and conchos. $9350.

The Hitched

The Hitched was built for Jahan Tavangar and his lovely wife May. The corner inlays are horsehair hitching (a classic cowboy art) and the inlaid Navajo weaving was made to match. The "storyteller" conchos are various cowboy scenes, and the tooling is a classic basket-stamping.  Loren's own silver braiding trims the seat, to put the finishing touch on this unique saddle. $9200.
 

Wright Saddle

Cathy Wright is a respected horse show judge and the proud owner of this saddle built for her. It has a fine-silver braided horn, fork and cantle and 28 sterling silver feathers rimming the hand tooled feathers.  The seat is padded with a dark brown buffalo leather. Cathy worked closely with Lisa to to make her dream saddle a reality. Isn't it time you made your dream saddle real, too?
 

XX-Farm Saddle

Mr. Schopf wanted an elegant western saddle with portraits of his favorite horses. Each section has a different horse carved and painted. The conchos are Navajo made sterling silver, and each has a different horses' name on it. Full-quill ostrich seat, kangaroo leather braiding on horn, fork, cantle and skirts. Basket stamp and the scrollwork is taken from gun engravings. Stirrups feature a decorative flap and a carved lining. Complete set with matching bridle and breast collar $19,500.

While most of our saddle work is custom made to order, we do create one-of-a-kind saddles to showcase our work. These saddles are usually sold the first time they're shown, but occasionally we finish a saddle and will offer it here, before it goes to a show. 16" seat, 6 5/8" bar spread &  3 1/2" cantle. Sterling silver "sampler conchos (each one hand made and different) with
sterling silver feathers. Hand stamped and carverd edging. Sterling silver 8-strand edge braiding on the fork and cantle. Matching bridle and breast-collar - even the buckle, tip and loop sets are
a matching "sampler" stamped sets.

Behans Saddle, After seeing a Skyhorse saddle in Forbes magazine, Mr. Behans called us and asked for a saddle to decorate his home. Together we designed this saddle using sterling silver feathers, alligator overlays, a classic fully-tooled basket stamp, an ostrich inlaid seat and brown kangaroo 8-strand edge-braiding on all the edges.  $15,700.

Red Tailed Hawk Cutting Saddle

The Red Tailed Hawk Cutting Saddle, this saddle is functional and beautiful. Mr. Pickett keeps it in his study when he is not riding it. Very flat cutting seat, padded with buffalo. Fully tooled with red-tailed hawks in different positions, with a basket-stamped field. The concos are "sampler" hawk designs - each one a hawk in a different position. Black kangaroo braiding trims the fork and cantle. Oiled with Loren's famous 2-tone color.  $9200.

Traditional Classic Show
 

A Skyhorse version of a traditional classic - This show saddle has double skirts with silver corner plates and fully braided silver edges. The silver is basket-stamped to match the leather and the seat is inlaid with a pure wool Navajo weaving. $9550.

Circle Bullet Saddle

Buckaroo-style working saddle. Colt 45 bullets form decorative patterns, along with a hand-tooled barbed wire border and bronc rider silhouette. Simple, handsome, strong and the ultimate in comfort. Sheriff Saddle

The classic cowboy trail saddle inspired this elegant custom version. This incredibly comfortable trail saddle is simple enough for every use but elegant enough for special occasions. Wade Tree, Post Horn, 16" Seat, 4" Cantle & 6 3/4 Bar Spread. Hand-carved, Sterling silver conchos, Braided Kangaroo Cantle, Includes rear flank cinch set and matching breast collar & Special Stohlman hardware Complete set $7,200.

Loren's saddle is built on a Wade tree with a Post Horn, and is a classic look. Butterfly skirts for close contact, a braided upright cantle, and hand engraved brass conchos. The hard seat has padding underneath.  $6700.

Cowboy Pleasure Saddle

Don't let the barb-wire fool you--this saddle is comfortable!15 1/2" low pleasure seat. 4" Upright Cantle, 12" Swells - Bowman. 6 5/8" Bar spread, Sterling Silver & Steel conchos. "Rowell" spur design. Hand-carved and painted cowboy and horse herd scene. Dark Brown buffalo padded seat. 8-strand edge braided cantle & 32 pounds - cinch, stirrups & ready to ride. $6,800
 

Another fun collaborative effort. Shoni Maulding is a master horse-hair hitcher. She hitched these panels in a feather pattern that we inlaid in the skirts and framed with feather carving in a stamped field. The silver conchos are a hand stamped pebble-pattern that reflects the tooling. The seat is inlaid in ostrich leather, and we used a blonde, natural oil finish to give it a classic show saddle look. The forks and cantle are braided in our famous 8-strand edge braid of silver lace. It has a 16" seat, 6 5/8" bar spread, Bowman tree with 12" swells, and comes with a matching breast-collar with a hitched inlay in the center.  $10,400.
 

Star Saddle

Star Saddle, Tom Brokaw has a saddle just like this with his initials in the stars! The saddle pictured belongs to Mikel Harry, and is fully braided with black kangaroo leather lace on the horn, skirts, fork and cantle, and stirrup edges and even the D rings. The conchos are solid sterling "Sampler" style, which means each concho is hand made with a different stamped design. $9375.

Telluride Eagle

Telluride Eagle, this saddle was a gift to our client from his employer on his retirement instead of a gold watch! Hand carved with bald eagles, our 2-tone oiling brought out the tooling and matched the riders black Tennessee Walker. The sampler eagle conchos are all different. Leather 8-strand edge braiding trims the skirts and a matching braid in silver is around the forks and cantle. Padded with a buffalo leather seat, this saddle is beautiful and comfortable.   $9300.

Butterfly Saddle

This saddle belongs to Annabelle Goodman, an avid trail rider in the San Juan Mountain Range on Paso Fino horses. It is built on a "Bowman" tree with 12" swells in the front, which offers more security.  The seat is padded and carved, and the blond braiding and saddle color match Annabelle and her favorite horse.  $7650.

Dream Trail Saddle

Our most cosmic and comfortable trail saddle. One fender says "Dream," the other says, "Spirit." A small purse is built into the back of the cantle and is just right for keeping sunscreen, a pocket knife and a hoof pick. The sterling silver conchos and feathers are Navajo made. The seat is inlaid buffalo leather. The lacing is kangaroo. The rear skirt is sculpted that flows around decorative stainless steel Stohlman rigging. As in all our trail saddles, the strings are looped around D-rings so more strings can be added. These strings can be removed and used in other ways and the D-rings can be used for extra clips. Total weight including cinch and stirrups is 32 pounds. $7,700

The Kachina Saddle

This Kachina saddle is one of our favorites. Each section has a different kachina carved into it, and each concho is a different "storeyteller" kachina of sterling silver with a jewlers bronze kachina figure. The lightning bolt border design is unique to Skyhorse Saddles because Lisa designed the interlocking stamp. The seat is an all natural-dyed weaving of yeii dancers. Sterling silver braid on the fork and cantle. $8500.

Navajo Rainbow Goddess Saddle

This Navajo Rainbow Goddess is taken from traditional Navajo sand paintings. The design on the sterling silver conchos is the Navajo cloud design. The saddle is trimmed with our sterling silver braid, and the seat inlaid with a Navajo weaving. $8300.

Lisa's Saddle: This is my favorite trail saddle because it is so streamlined, yet strong and comfortable. The tree is a Visalia, which has slick forks and cuts down on weight and bulk, yet deep seated for comfort and security on the trail. The skirts are a "butterfly" style, which sweeps way up under the leg for great contact with my horse. The dropped D rigging hangs low enough and hugs my horse, and is reinforced with Biothane (a plastic coated nylon) for great strength. I have added a small pouch on the back of the upright cantle where I keep my sunscreen, lip balm and my pocket knife. It has a braided cantle and our trademark inlaid padded seat. The hand carving is both playful and unique. Simple conchos of sterling silver and brass and our favorite way of attaching strings - off the D rings that hang from the conchos. The strings then loop around the D's, which allows me to remove a string easily if I need a lace for something down the trail, to replace them when necessary, and gives me extra rings to snap things onto on the trail. $7000.

The Daisy Saddle

This Daisy Saddle is another Skyhorse version of a Spanish classic. The handcarved border tooling has a painted background, the fork and cantle is trimmed with braided leather, and the conchos are a handmade blued-steel inlaid with sterling silver. The saddle features decorative "Shoofly" tassles hanging from the conchos, made of horsehair with sterling silver beads. $8000.
